Sophanem is a city in the Kharidian Desert past Al Kharid and just east of Menaphos.
Sophanem can be only accessed by starting the Icthlarin's Little Helper quest and it only used in the quest. There is also a small gold mine in the vicinity, but as it is far from a bank or furnace, it is rarely used. There are no other purposes of this city, and as a result few come here except when doing the quest.
You can now also find Siamun in this city; he is used in the Rogue-Trader Minigame.
The Tree Gnome Stronghold is located northwest of Ardougne in the members world. It has many attractions such as the low level agility arena, the gnome ball court and a sentient tree and a Gnome Glider. The Gnome Glider is located in the top level of the Grand Tree. The Grand Tree is the home of the king; it has multiple levels of catwalks and raised platforms. In the Grand Tree you will find a bank, a clothing store selling pastel gnome robes, a weapons store, a gnome restaurant and Blurberries Bar. You may also work at the bar or bakery by talking to one of the waiters. The gnomes have developed their own unique style of cooking using local ingredients and have perfected the art of mixology. Ingredients are available at from food sellers located near the restaurant and bar. If you have completed The Grand Tree quest, you can gain access to a rich mine below the Grand Tree.
The Abyss is not on the RuneScape map but is has portals to all the runecrafting altars. It is also very dangerous inside, because there are abyssal monsters: Abyssal Leech, Abyssal Guardian, and the Abyssal Walker, to name but a few. Players are 'skulled' upon entry to the abyss, so if they die they will lose all items. It also causes prayer to be drained. Despite the skull and the only entry to abyss being in the Wilderness, there is no way to PK in the abyss itself. However, the section of the wilderness nearest to the Abyss entrance is well-frequented by PKers.
The monsters are only on the outer ring. There are several ways to enter the inner ring. The inner ring has no monsters, and has portals to all of the runecrafting altars. This includes portals to altars which don't yet exist, however these portals cannot be accessed. Entering a portal does not require a talisman or tiara as runecrafting elsewhere does.
By killing the abyssal monsters, players can gain runecrafting pouches, which can carry multiple rune essence, which is very helpful for runecrafting. The pouches come in four different sizes, with bigger pouches requiring higher runecrafting levels to use, but holding more essence. Each player can only have one of each type of pouch. The pouches become "degraded" over time, but are repaired free of charge by the wizard in the center of the abyss.
